Management and Vocational Education in the Healthcare Sector B.A.

The Bachelor's degree program "Management and Vocational Education" (B.A.) leads to a first professional qualification that enables graduates to

• take on a wide range of management and educational tasks in the healthcare sector, work independently and in teams and meet the challenges of the digital working world;
• to act professionally in specific fields of management in the specialization in healthcare management, to work responsibly on tasks and problems, to generate solutions and to represent the results, to initiate and pedagogically accompany specific teaching/learning processes in the specialization in healthcare vocational education, to competently plan and reflect on professional activities and to evaluate the quality of educational offers.

Graduates of the degree program find a variety of fields of activity in nursing or health care facilities, for example in leadership or management functions in hospitals, rehabilitation facilities, senior citizens' facilities and other outpatient or inpatient health care facilities. They can work in institutions or independently as consultants or experts or as experts for health/nursing care insurance companies, the medical service or in public health administration. The acquired pedagogical skills also support your competent actions in the area of management in employee management or in interdisciplinary exchange.

In the field of vocational education, the degree course will qualify you to work as a teacher for practical teaching or practical guidance in the healthcare sector. You will therefore be able to take on teaching positions in (in-company) training and further education institutions in the healthcare sector. Staff positions in nursing management are also possible, e.g. head of practical instruction. You will also be able to contribute to the further development of curricula and pedagogical and professional concepts or to school development. The additional skills acquired in the area of management are helpful for functions in education management, but also in staff positions in the nursing directorate. Dealing with change and risks, as well as project management skills, are skills that are required in all fields of work today.

Nursing and health-related research is another field of activity. The Bachelor's degree qualifies you for a further Master's course in the fields of management or vocational or nursing education. As a rule, 25 - 30 ECTS are expected as a basic qualification for a Master's course in the respective field.

For those interested without a university entrance qualification, there is the possibility of an entrance examination or a trial course of study in a limited number and special procedure. Please note that an application must be submitted to htw saar by April 1st of the year. Therefore, counseling appointments should be scheduled by February of each year at the latest.

Prerequisites are (Official Gazette of the Saarland No. 15 of April 13, 2017)

• a successfully completed final examination with a qualifiedresult (final grade of at least 2.5) in a relevant recognized training occupation with a regular training period of at least two years
• full-time employment for at least two years in the learnedprofession ora related profession

Professional skills acquired during training are recognized with a maximum total of 30 ECTS credits (equivalent to one semester of study).

Part-time study

• The degree program can be completed part-time, provided that the requirements of the currently valid enrollment regulations (ImO) of htw saar are met.
• An individual study plan for each semester must be agreed with the Examination Board in cooperation with the Director of Studies before enrolment or re-registration for part-time studies. If no agreement is reached by the aforementioned deadline, the examination board will determine the study plan.
• According to the ImO, a minimum of 15 and a maximum of 18 ECTS credits are required per semester. Applications are submitted informally to the Examination Office and the Examination Board.
