Application with a foreign university entrance qualification

Applicants with foreign educational certificates must first apply via uni-assist for a preliminary check of their certificates.

After the preliminary examination, you will receive a certificate of the result of the evaluation of the certificates with the converted grade (preliminary examination documentation - VPD).
You can use this certificate to start your application via the htw saar online application portal.

If you obtained your higher education entrance qualification in Luxembourg in accordance with Luxembourg law, you do not need a VPD. You can apply directly via the htw saar application portal.

Many degree courses at htw saar have restricted admission, i.e. you must apply for a place. You can apply online via the htw saar SIM application portal:

Procedure

1. Registration* or login** in the SIM application portal* or SIM student portal**
2. After logging in to the application portal, start the tile "Study place application".
3. Enter all required information about the study program you are applying for online.
4. Upload any required documents to the designated location and "Submit application".
5. Manage applications under "My applications" if required

If your application is successful, you will receive a letter of admission:

usually in August (if the application deadline is 15.07.)

usually in February (if the application deadline is 15.01.)

You will find the documents required for the application to your desired degree program in the program-specific annexes.

To apply to htw saar, we need your foreign university entrance qualification (e.g. Matura or baccalaureate) in the original language. In addition, we require a translation of the foreign university entrance qualification into German or English .

If your foreign school-leaving certificate is not sufficient for direct admission to study at htw saar, you must first complete a preparatory course. The htw saar itself does not offer a preparatory course.

If you are applying for a German-language degree program, you must provide proof of German language prof iciency at level C1 .

Prospective students with a German, Luxembourg or Austrian university entrance qualification do not need to provide proof of their German language skills.

Please note the relevant requirements of the respective degree program!

We have to document all your periods of study in Germany .

A current certificate of enrollment is usually sufficient for this. Certificates of exmatriculation (if you are no longer enrolled) are also accepted.

In order to be able to track your periods of study abroad , we need official proof from the university. Please upload these documents in the original language and a translation into German or English.

Please upload the official proof of your periods of study abroad. Make sure that the documents are available both in the original language and in a translation into German or English. This enables us to fully understand your study experience abroad.

Applicants who have obtained a school or university degree in China, India or Vietnam need the certificate from the respective Academic Evaluation Center (APS).

The APS certificate must be submitted to both uni assist and htw saar.

Proof of English language proficiency is required for the following Bachelor's degree programs:

• International Business (recognized proof of English B2 level and German B1 level)
• Mechanical Engineering (recognized proof of English B2 level)

You can submit an application for a degree program and an application for the German course. Admission to the German course does not constitute admission to the degree program.

International applicants must apply for a VPD via uni assist.

Exception: Applicants who can present a note of recognition of their higher education entrance qualification from the Saarland Ministry of Education or an equivalent institution in another federal state.

Yes, you must submit all relevant documents again in the applicant portal.

Apply for a VPD for the "Studienvorbereitung DSH" via uni assist and apply for the German course in the htw saar applicant portal. To apply for the German course, you must submit a recognized German language certificate (level B1).

htw saar currently offers the following English-language Bachelor's degree programs:

• Mechanical Engineering

We do not issue provisional admissions for our degree programs and preparatory programs. All documents required for admission to htw saar must be submitted by the application deadline. This means that language certificates are also required by the application deadline.
