If you are in a particularly serious personal situation that requires immediate admission to your studies (1st semester) or if special social or family reasons make this necessary, the Saarland Study Place Allocation Ordinance allows you to submit a hardship application. For such justified cases, a limited number of study places are reserved - regardless of the grade. The ranking of applicants is determined by the degree of exceptional hardship.
In the application for the allocation of a study place, you must informally apply for recognition as a case of hardship with detailed justification and provide appropriate evidence.
If you have already been awarded a place in a previous study place allocation procedure but were unable to take up the place due to service, you will be given priority admission to the course. To this end, you must apply for a study place no later than the second study place allocation procedure following the end of your service.
Services include, in particular, military service, civilian service, voluntary social year, at least two years' service as a development worker or exclusive care of a child under the age of 18 or another relative in need of care for up to three years.
Services must be stated in the application for the allocation of a study place and must be proven at the time of enrolment.
The average grade may be an important selection criterion for the allocation of study places. The allocation regulations therefore provide for the possibility of improving this criterion in special cases upon application.
Such an exceptional situation exists if the applicant was prevented from achieving a better average grade for reasons for which he/she is not responsible.
The improvement in the average grade must be proven by school reports.
Applicants who have already successfully completed a first degree, i.e. a degree in another degree program at a university in Germany, can be selected for the first semester of a locally admission-restricted Bachelor's degree program within the framework of a special quota.
To check whether consideration within this quota is possible, a separate justification for the second degree program (see Downloads) must be submitted with the application for the allocation of a study place.
Applicants who belong to the national squad of a top professional association of the German Olympic Sports Confederation for a sport supervised by the Saarbrücken Olympic Training Center (OSP) and are therefore bound to Saarbrücken as a place of study (top athletes) will participate in the local admission procedure at htw saar within the framework of a special quota of 2 percent of the fixed number of admissions. Proof of eligibility as a top athlete and membership of the national squad of a priority sport of the OSP must be provided by means of a certificate from the OSP.
