Application for a higher semester

Many degree programs at htw saar have restricted admission, i.e. you must apply for a place. You can apply online via the htw saar SIM application portal:

The documents to be submitted with the application via the SIM portal can be found in the program-specific attachments.

Procedure

1. Register* or log in** to the SIM application portal* or SIM student portal**
2. After logging into the application portal, start the "Study place application" tile.
3. Enter all required information about the study program you are applying for online.
4. Upload any required documents to the designated location and "Submit application".
5. Manage applications under "My applications" if required

Some Bachelor's degree programs are admission-free. You can enrol for the first semester of one of the non-restricted degree programs offered if you select "Direct enrolment" in the htw saar SIM application portal.

Applicants can also be admitted to a higher semester within the scope of available study place capacities and under certain conditions. The application for a higher semester is also made via the online portal.

Please note that in any case, proof of academic and examination achievements must be provided to an extent that enables you to continue your studies in a meaningful way.

The examination board responsible for the degree program must approve enrollment in the higher semester. Admission to the higher semester is not without risk, as all non-recognizable coursework and examinations from previous semesters must be written on the first possible examination date without attending the lecture. Exceptions to this can only be made via the examination board.

Applicants for a higher semester should always take advantage of a detailed study consultation.

In the event that an internship is required and admission for the third or a higher semester is applied for, proof of successful completion of the internship must be provided by the start of the lecture period. If the internship has not yet been completed at the time of application, please submit a certificate (proof of internship) stating that you will have completed the required internship by the start of lectures at the latest.

If your application is successful, you will receive a letter of admission:

usually in August (if the application deadline is 15.07.)
usually in February (if the application deadline is 15.01.)

You will find the documents required for the application to your desired degree program in the program-specific annexes.

We require a current transcript of records stating the ECTS credits you have achieved so far.

An upload of your university entrance qualification in the online application is sufficient for the application.

You will need a current and complete curriculum vitaein tabular form.

We must document your entire period of study in Germany (university semesters) .

Please upload the relevant documents when enrolling.

For example:

• Certificate of study progress
• Exmatriculation certificate with start and end date of enrollment

To enrol, we require a certificate that you are still entitled to take examinations in the respective degree program.

Proof of language proficiency is required for certain degree programs. Details can be found in the respective study and examination regulations of the degree programs ( Study and Examination Regulations / ASPO Annexes - htwsaar).

For selected degree programs, proof of a pre-study internship must be provided by the time you re-register for the 3rd semester. Depending on which semester you are applying for, this must be submitted at the time of enrolment.

The examination board responsible for the degree program decides on recognition after hearing the lecturer.

Recognition is generally only granted after the start of lectures.

All degree programs at htw saar are subject to application. For this reason, a new application is required, even if you are already enrolled at htw saar.

You can only submit one application for a higher semester.

We will correct any incorrect information in the system as soon as we check your online application. It is not necessary to delete the application or submit a new application.

The notifications are issued after the admission procedure has been completed and are available in your application portal under "Documents" in the "My notifications" section.
