The course deals with the physical, psychological and social conditions of health and illness. The course is interdisciplinary, as you will learn the basics of all the important specialist areas relating to health and illness. In the bioscience modules, you will learn the basics of the anatomy, physiology and biology of the human body and important organ systems. You will also learn about important clinical pictures, such as diseases of the cardiovascular system, neurological and psychiatric diseases, endocrine diseases, cancers and more. In basic psychology, you will learn about the individual behavior of people from various areas of psychology such as developmental psychology, social psychology or neuropsychology, especially in relation to health behavior. For example, students learn how stress can promote the development of illnesses or how people can be motivated to behave in a healthy way. In the socially oriented modules, you will learn how social or environmental factors influence health, e.g. the effects of climate change on health. They also deal with issues of health and social inequality. Among other things, the question of whether everyone has equal access to health services regardless of their social situation is explored. In order to work in the healthcare sector, you also need to be familiar with the healthcare system and the healthcare policy framework, and you will also be taught about this - e.g. who finances which services in the healthcare system? In the methods subjects, you will learn what science is and how to collect and evaluate quantitative or qualitative data using scientific methods. In addition to statistics, epidemiology is also taught, e.g. how certain diseases are distributed in the population or in population groups. Special emphasis is placed on disease prevention and health promotion. You will learn how appropriate measures are planned, implemented and tested for effectiveness in different settings and for different target groups. In particular, the three national health goals are examined: 1. growing up healthy, 2. living and working healthy and 3. growing older healthy. You will also learn important personal skills that are needed in working life, such as communication and counseling or project management. You can put what you have learned into practice in a practical study phase and in project work. Perhaps you would also like to spend a semester abroad? We will support you.
