Smartphones, social networks, search engines and apps illustrate the huge influence of computer science and information technology (IT) on our everyday lives. They support and enable numerous processes and workflows in organizations and companies, such as customer service, purchasing and sales. However, the associated technologies not only support day-to-day business. Increasing digitalization and networking as well as the Internet of Things, i.e. the networking of physical and virtual objects using IT, are heralding another industrial revolution and can serve as the basis for a transformation to an ecological economy.
Information technology is often a decisive cornerstone for new business models, as the combination of cloud computing and big data has made clear. Here, IT is both a driver of innovation and a key technology, such as in autonomous driving using artificial intelligence. We are also experiencing the growing importance of information security.
The German-language Bachelor's degree course in Digital Business and IT offers an interdisciplinary and academic education and combines specialist and methodological expertise from two sought-after fields of work: computer science and economics.
The course focuses on application orientation and, in particular, the use of IT systems in companies and organizations in the context of business management issues and challenges.
The qualification objective of the course is to prepare students for a job as a specialist or manager who is involved in the planning, development and support of IT systems and applications in companies and organizations, as well as analysing and optimizing business processes - using extensive data, among other things.
The shortage of skilled workers is also clearly noticeable in the IT sector. And there is a constantly growing demand for IT specialists. Students of business informatics are in high demand, as companies are looking for specialists who can coordinate and innovatively align the use of IT systems in companies and organizations with both sound and application-oriented knowledge of information technologies and extensive economic know-how.
Graduates of the Digital Business and IT degree course have very good career prospects, as they are not only employed in the IT sector, but also across all industries. Their dual qualification makes them highly sought-after and enables them to work in a wide range of fields, for example in software development, IT consulting, project management or data analysis and evaluation.
