Civil engineers are the greatest all-rounders among engineers because their fields of application are so diverse. This makes the profession multifaceted and exciting and also requires a great deal of mental flexibility. In order to optimally prepare our students for their future tasks, we rely on a lot of practical experience and teaching that is as socially competent as it is in terms of content.

General
Individual requirements of the degree program
Without civil engineers, virtually nothing would stand or run. No house, no road, no bridge, no incineration plant, no tunnel, no sewage system, no power plant, etc. would be built without them. They design, plan and implement construction projects, monitor the construction process, calculate details, execute and manage processes.
At the same time, they always keep the big questions in focus: How can buildings and facilities be constructed and operated in a way that conserves resources in view of climate change? Which materials will be suitable for indoor climate and energy efficiency in the future? What impact will demographic developments have on infrastructure systems in urban and rural areas?
Civil engineers deal with all these global questions as well as the obvious technical issues long before the first excavators roll in.
We impart the extensive knowledge and the necessary skills in the Bachelor's degree course in Civil Engineering at htw saar. In close cooperation with national and international partners from the construction industry, municipalities and authorities, we offer our students a practical course of study that optimally prepares them for the current and future challenges of their profession. We combine technical expertise with social, ecological and economic criteria and teach them using innovative teaching methods.
This provides our graduates with broad specialist knowledge and the right tools for responsible and varied work in the planning, construction and operation of buildings, facilities and infrastructure systems in both urban and rural areas.
The Bachelor's degree course in Civil Engineering deals with the following questions:

Civil engineering is something solid. You have to work a lot with numbers and create technical calculation models.

The Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering opens up an extremely broad field of application for our graduates. They work employed or freelance for construction companies and engineering offices on tenders for projects, plan, dimension and construct a wide variety of buildings, hold discussions with customers, manage and check construction and compliance with planning specifications as site managers on site, arrange for necessary changes and solve any difficulties that arise.
In the public sector, as employed or civil servant civil engineers, they are responsible for urban and landscape development, prepare tender documents, check building permits, monitor compliance with legal regulations and decide whether a building can be handed over.
The job prospects for civil engineers are excellent. In urban areas, construction, renovation and conversion work is ongoing. In the suburbs and rural areas, new building land and infrastructure such as roads, waterways, power stations, bridges and wind farms are being created. In addition, the baby boomers are retiring - the best prospects for a new generation of young, motivated and qualified civil engineers who want to make a difference.
