Our architecture students work very closely together in our specialist groups. They can talk to our lecturers and professors at any time and use our large, beautiful workspaces on the architecture campus 24 hours a day. These are great conditions - and the students love them.
- Prof. Eve Hartnack, Studienleiterin Architektur
Individual requirements of the degree program
The demands on cities, architects and planners are becoming ever greater. How do we manage to build living spaces where a wide variety of people can live and work? How are spaces perceived and in which direction can we develop them? Architects deal with these questions even before the foundations of a building are laid and the first brick is laid. They design spaces that have to meet complex cultural, historical, environmental and sociological requirements and thus have a lasting influence on the way we will live in the future.
We teach the skills for this in the Bachelor's degree course in Architecture at htw saar. At the Göttelborn campus, students learn much more than design and construction planning. We have designed a course of study that meets the technical, economic and design requirements of architects. They learn how to develop designs with the help of technical drawings and are able to take over the building construction on the basis of calculations.
Graduates can then build on a broad range of specialist knowledge and have an interdisciplinary background in order to work in a sustainable, economical and aesthetically pleasing way.
The Architecture degree program addresses the following questions:
While my training was mainly about the technical basics, the architecture course at htw saar focuses on the creative side. I can develop my talent for design here. I have a very personal relationship with my fellow students and professors here. I feel really well supported here!
Luisa Brandstetter, Studentin
With a Bachelor of Arts degree, graduates can take on challenging architectural work in offices or in the public sector. For example, they can take on tasks at the building authority, accompany the development of a city in the urban planning office or preserve the substance of historic buildings in the preservation of monuments. There is also the possibility of working in the real estate industry, for example as an estate agent. However, self-employment as an architect is only possible with a Master's degree, which is chamber-eligible and can be obtained directly after the Bachelor's degree. Places are limited to 20 students, which is why we recommend applying in good time.
