In modern commercial enterprises, many things intertwine: the development of corporate strategy and its subsequent implementation, the design and marketing of products and services, the industrial manufacture of these products and the control of all processes through IT. In addition to specialists who are deeply immersed in their discipline, generalists are also needed who are familiar with the disciplines to such an extent that they can provide a holistic overview of these areas, bring them together and network them, i.e. work on an interdisciplinary basis. After all, a company can only be successful if all these areas are well coordinated.
At htw saar, we train these sought-after generalists and all-rounders, who can also specialize in individual disciplines if required, on the Bachelor's degree course in Industrial Engineering and Management. On this course, we teach our students about the subject areas and areas of responsibility that work together in a network in business. We teach the fundamentals of economics, engineering and natural sciences and combine them with practice-oriented modules and specializations during the course of study. In this way, students acquire the knowledge and skills to be able to adopt both the economic perspective and that of engineers and technicians in their future careers - and to successfully combine them.
In the current CHE University Ranking, htw saar achieved a top position in the Industrial Engineering and Management course and is therefore among the absolute top group of all listed universities of applied sciences in Germany in all categories.
Thanks to our numerous partnerships, the world is open to students and they can gain their first experience abroad and improve their foreign language skills, e.g. at our partner universities in China, Mexico, the USA, Sweden, Finland, Poland or Luxembourg. Optionally, students can acquire an internationally recognized double degree (double or joint degree).
The Industrial Engineering and Management degree program deals with the following questions, among others:
The door to a job often opens for students in the company where they completed their internship or wrote their Bachelor's thesis. Otherwise, the breadth of the education at htw saar opens up numerous options to create a promising entry into the profession as a business economist, engineer or computer scientist. Graduates of the Bachelor's degree course in Industrial Engineering and Management can, for example, work on the development of a capacity planning system for prototype and series production, create concepts for operational energy, logistics or warehouse management or optimize processes in production or administration. However, they can also work in a management consultancy, as their broad-based knowledge enables them to think, plan and advise on an interdisciplinary basis. Although industrial engineers work primarily in business, they are also increasingly in demand in the public sector, associations and non-profit organizations.
However, those who do not wish to enter the professional world immediately after graduation can enrol on the interdisciplinary Master's degree course in Industrial Engineering at htw saar. Here, students can deepen their knowledge of economics and engineering in order to later take on personnel and specialist responsibility as a manager.
