Individual requirements of the degree program
Summer, sun, beach and sea: these are probably the first associations when you hear the term tourism. And that's what you're supposed to study?
But international tourism management is much more than just a vacation. It also includes business trips. Good concepts and clear management are required to ensure that the players involved work together effectively in the creation of the "travel" product. And on an international level - after all, hotels, airlines and tour operators are sometimes spread all over the world. The Bachelor's degree course in International Tourism Management at htw saar teaches how this interaction is ideally managed.
We deal with the diverse tasks and functions of tourism service providers and suppliers - be they hotels, tour operators, transport companies or the destinations themselves. The focus is on the areas of product conception, (service) provision and marketing. In addition, students acquire skills in all relevant business, economic and legal fields.
Studying tourism is about more than just a love of travel and an interest in foreign cultures and languages. These are good prerequisites, but they alone are not enough in the job. Management decisions are driven by figures, data and facts. That's why the tourism industry needs well-trained young professionals who can work in a systematic and structured way and enjoy cooperating with other people and cultures around the world.
We provide students with the tools they need to understand the economic context of international tourism and to make independent decisions. They also acquire important language and social skills to prepare them for working in different countries and cultures. This enables graduates to immerse themselves in the multifaceted areas of tourism later on - and perhaps even live and work where others only go on vacation.
I can really recommend the course to anyone who is interested in tourism. It's a very practical course where you have to take a lot of initiative. The professors are also great and give us students a lot of support and encouragement.
