Biomedical technology is regarded as an industry of the future due to its inherent innovative strength and high knowledge intensity. Medical technology is of growing social and economic importance for the healthcare of the population.
Biomedical technology (BMT, short for biomedical engineering) is the provision and application of engineering and scientific means and methods to living systems in biology and medicine in research and development, in the medical care process (prevention/prophylaxis, diagnosis, therapy, rehabilitation, metaphylaxis) and for improving the quality of life, in biomedical engineering device construction, in the pharmaceutical industry, the biotechnology and healthcare sectors.
At htw saar, the focus is on the application of electrical engineering in medicine
Biomedical engineering graduates are mediators between technology and medicine - and between technicians and medical professionals. Job profiles and areas of application for BMT engineers on these courses at htw saar are diverse. For Bachelor's graduates, these range from participation in development processes, sales, commissioning, maintenance and repair of medical technology systems to the operation, safety, risk and quality management of such systems in the clinical field - often taking into account the interdependence with areas outside of pure medical technology such as radiation protection or IT security. The latter also includes the engineering support of technical processes in the clinical environment.
As an engineer for biomedical technology, you will have mastered the current knowledge and methodology of engineering sciences and will be able to use these to solve problems in medical technology. You will be familiar with the special aspects of the interaction of technical systems with the human body and the resulting safety requirements. You will understand the diagnostic and therapeutic issues of medicine and know the basic principles of clinical working methods; you will be able to design and implement suitable technical solutions.
