Industrial Engineering - Production Management is a highly interdisciplinary, primarily methodologically oriented degree course at the interface of business administration and production engineering (generic term for energy, production and process engineering) with a focus on "production management". Another unique feature is that with applied computer science and Industry 4.0, the increasingly important topic of "digitalization" plays a prominent role.
The admission requirements for a dual study program at htw saar and ASW are the general higher education entrance qualification, the entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences or the subject-specific higher education entrance qualification. Further admission requirements and special regulations can be found here.
With the successful completion of the course (Bachelor of Engineering), you will not only acquire your first professional qualification, but you will also be optimally prepared for your professional activity in companies at the interface of business administration and technology, e.g. for working in interdisciplinary teams to analyze complex production processes and improve them in terms of quality, technology and economy. As a generalist, you will be able to cope very well with the current major changes (megatrends), e.g. through digitalization, environmentally friendly mobility and sustainability, and make your contribution, e.g. as a production engineer and as a product and production manager.
The degree is an excellent qualification for a postgraduate Master's degree.
In the scientific and technical part of the degree program, students acquire the necessary skills for industrial engineers in technical mechanics and thermodynamics as well as in electrical engineering (with electrical drive systems), materials, production and design engineering, based on the mathematical and scientific fundamentals in higher mathematics (with stochastics), experimental physics and general chemistry. The business administration part of the degree program provides students with skills in cost and performance accounting, investment and financing, external accounting and taxes, and marketing and sales. In the area of "Digitalization", you will acquire comprehensive skills in applied computer science and Industry 4.0 with big data, cyber-physical systems and artificial intelligence.
In the "Production Management" focus area, students deepen their knowledge of industrial management as well as production systems, logistics, work science, human resources management, leadership, management and controlling. In this way, students acquire interdisciplinary knowledge and methods and gain comprehensive skills to view and solve complex tasks and problems holistically, benefiting from the additional acquisition of interdisciplinary skills in law, economics, English, project management and scientific work.
A dual study program comprises two places of learning: the ASW for theory and the training company for practice. This ensures a systematic transfer of the theoretical content learned to the practical problems in the respective training company. This leads to a high level of professional competence in graduates, which prepares young people very well for the challenges of their professional life in a complex, globalized and digitalized economy.
A clearly structured block phase model for the optimal interlocking of theory and practice, to which the study company is exclusively tailored, is an important feature of this special study model.
The time schedule and the content of the practical training in the companies are roughly specified in the training framework plan:
