Mechanical Engineering - Production Technology is an interdisciplinary, primarily methodically oriented, dual degree course in which the scientific and technical fundamentals of energy, production and process engineering are taught in depth and supplemented by the fundamentals of production management. It is also unique in that the increasingly important topic of "digitalization" plays a prominent role with applied computer science, mechatronic systems and Industry 4.0.
The admission requirements for a dual study program at htw saar and ASW are the general higher education entrance qualification, the entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences or the subject-specific higher education entrance qualification. Further admission requirements and special regulations can be found here.
With the successful completion of the course (Bachelor of Engineering), you will not only acquire your first professional qualification, but you will also be optimally prepared for your professional activity in companies, e.g. for working in interdisciplinary teams to develop and design systems, machines and products as mechatronic systems, including their manufacture from modern materials using innovative production techniques, automated machine tools and robots in economically optimized production systems and factories. As a generalist, you will be able to cope very well with the current major changes (megatrends), e.g. through digitalization, environmentally friendly mobility and sustainability, and make your contribution as a production engineer. Developer of new products and processes and as a designer.
The degree is an excellent qualification for a postgraduate Master's degree.
Based on the mathematical and scientific foundations in higher mathematics, experimental physics and general chemistry, students acquire the broad-based skills necessary for engineers in production technology in technical mechanics, thermodynamics (with thermodynamics of mixtures), electrical engineering (with electrical drive systems), technical optics, materials engineering and design engineering. In addition, they deepen their knowledge of production technology, additive manufacturing, plastics technology, machine tools, lightweight construction and new technologies. In the area of "Digitalization", you will acquire comprehensive skills in applied computer science, mechatronic systems and Industry 4.0 with big data, cyber-physical systems and artificial intelligence.
In order to prepare students for management tasks, the central integrated subject "Production Management", consisting of ergonomics, technical production systematics, quality management and production planning and control with IT systems, is of particular importance. This, together with "project management" and "scientific work", gives students the skills to view and solve complex tasks and problems holistically.
A dual study program comprises two places of learning: the ASW for theory and the training company for practice. This ensures a systematic transfer of the theoretical content learned to the practical problems in the respective training company. This leads to a high level of professional competence in graduates, which prepares young people very well for the challenges of their professional life in a complex, globalized and digitalized economy.
A clearly structured block phase model for the optimal dovetailing of theory and practice, to which the study company is exclusively tailored, is an important feature of this special study model.
The time schedule and content of the practical training in the companies are roughly specified in the training framework plan:
